A step-by-step guide to creating a bespoke piece of art for your home:
- Initial information is required such as style and size to create a quote.
- A 50% deposit of the quote is required to begin the process and purchase materials. The other 50% will be due when the painting is completed. Quotes are valid for 3 weeks.
- Colour schemes and tones are discussed along with any photos of your home, decor and space for the artwork.
- Smaller details and textures are identified throughout the process.
- After the first layers are complete, photos and videos are sent to ensure the client is happy with the colours, textures and design.
- Photos and videos are sent to ensure the client’s vision is finalised and any details added.
- Once the client is happy with the final piece, a quote is created for postage, and shipping is arranged with reinforced packaging.
Timeframes can vary depending on workload, but generally, a commission can take 3-9 weeks.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
If you feel unsure about size or design and have any photos of pieces you like or images you would like to incorporate into your own artwork, please send them over. Debbie can also superimpose any designs of hers into your space to get a feel of what might suit you best.
Make sure the artwork fits the space. This might seem a silly thing to mention, but all artwork looks better in a space that suits the space flow better. If you’re hanging art above furniture such as a sofa or table etc, ideally the artwork should be about 2/3 of the furniture’s length. For larger dramatic pieces, these always suit being at the average eye level.
Some clients have used masking tape to mark out the size of the piece to get a better feel of it in the chosen space. If you need any advice on this Debbie will be happy to help.

WHY COMMISSION A PIECE
All of Debbie’s art is for sale, some may still be available, and others are specifically commissioned pieces. Please see the shop section for her new pieces that are still available.
A commissioned painting is an opportunity to have Debbie develop a bespoke, one of a kind piece, to your exact style and bring beauty to your home.
This is ideal if there is a piece of art of Debbie’s you love, but it is now sold or have seen past original paintings you would like to draw different elements from. Debbie love’s matching colours and textures in her paintings to details in your home. Check out her Instagram page (@artby_dkershaw) for examples of her colour and texture matching to add depth to different clients homes.
All paintings vary in size and shape. All of her work is on a cotton canvas stretched on a wooden frame making them ready and easy to mount on your wall.
Debbie likes to take a very personal approach being flexible and collaborative and she always provides regular updates to help create your perfect vision together. The painting is only finished when you both love the final product, at which point she arranges safe delivery to your home in protective packaging.
Please message to start the process or any questions, Debbie would love to hear from you.
